Do You Really Need A Website?

The Mobile iPhone Marketer Article 4
Do You Really Need A Website?

This article is about my experience when I was starting out. When I first started out studying about internet marketing, I signed up for all kinds of stuff that I got in my email. After all how was a person going to learn in the beginning. I seen ads for get your free web pages all ready made. Just place them on your site. Ok, I thought, that's cool, this will save me time! So now I had to learn about websites. I learned about different companies that sold a spot to start your website. So after several days to weeks I started understanding what a website was and how to use it. I picked AVAHost.net because they offered a big incentive package of software and ebooks, and the price was cheap. Then it took me several months to learn all the ins and outs of what you got when you get something like this. You learn about editing, customizing, what features are available. You learn about setting up email accounts, sending email, and databases. So after a while it took up a lot of time and study. Then I learned about uploads, downloads, and Wordpress. Now Wordpress takes a lot of work and makes it easier to make or add changes. It was far easier and faster to do things with Wordpress. So I bought some pre-made sites and learned how to put them on my site, which was cool! But then it got to the point that I wanted more customization, more features.

So I started learning about plugins and how they can add more features. After several months to a year I had a blog site, some pre made products and tried to get traffic. After a while my site got bigger and bigger. Then it started crashing because a plugin didn't work correctly or conflicted with another. I spent more time and money trying to fix the monster it had become. So after 2 years of fixing, updating and more money, trying to get something to sell, I decided to shut down the whole thing and quit my 2 websites. I decided to take some months away from the mess to think of which direction to go.

Now don't think that this was a bad idea, it wasn't and I learned a lot! It just I was more busy learning than selling that I got burned out. So I needed to take a break and this helped a lot. The other thing was it was eating into my budget! So after a while, I started thinking on `How can I do this cheaper and better?`. All during this time I was using Google and their tools. I learned they had a website service called Blogger. Now it wasn't like my full blown Wordpress with monthly fees. It was free! So I learned what was involved with building a website with Google! It was far simpler and easier to write a page and posts! It got to the point I started enjoying writing articles! Now before I didn't like doing this because I was so busy with the old website problems! So now I have a free website that has 5 sections of interrelated topics that specialize in sub-topics. This is strictly a information based site with no sales pages. So I can now keep things simple and separated, and it is far simpler and cheaper for me to run and it works! It you are reading this now, you are on my site. Look thru it and see how it is setup. Maybe it is the perfect way to get going for a beginner! And guess what, I can do all this on my iPhone anywhere and anytime. The basic theme of my blog! Thanks for visiting.

By the way, I do still want to do sales products, and I have a great way to do this in my next article! See you then! Barry
